Site running slow - how to compress?

in Chillout Posts: 54
Hi Apollo,

Ive just done a google speed test on our site, things are looking very slow. (20/100 for desktop & 19/100 for mobile)

Other than images needing compressing, some of the suggestions are to Minify javascript, Minify css, Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content, Leverage browser caching.

Are these above things that we can easily fix ourselves with the Chillout theme?

When compressing images, is it better to use a plugin such as WPSmush it or to resave/compress the images and re-upload them to the uploads folder on ftp?
My concern with using a plugin - is will it then slow the site down even more?

We are not using the Twitter widget Pro plugin (we are using Juicer.io as our social feed instead) can we disable/delete this plugin?

Your advice is gratefully received.

Many thanks
Mandy
