I am unable to activate the plugin for slider revolution as well as unable to update the plugin or download any templates etc.

Yes, you won't be able to get these things as they are only given to direct clients of Revolution Slider. You get this plugin bundled with theme, so you are stuck to updates given with theme updates. You can read more here:
