How to use a custom page template for homepage
Hello, im wondering how can i create a custom page template for the homepage with a new WP_query, i need to show the bricks grid but excluding certain categories... i tried copying the archive to the new page template but it wont show any posts.. also tried manually pasting the get_template_part('loop') with a new WP_query but wont work either! please help!!

It is not clear do you wish to show some categories of albums or of blog posts?
If blog I would recommend detup blog as your home page and use some plugin to limit display to certain categories.
