Albums not working properly

edited August 2013 in Spaceship Posts: 12
I have had many comments from my clients that they have issues in viewing my albums as they are now (www.michellewastie.com) - it takes really long to load and then once it loads, they dont have control over the function of it.
I have upgraded, installed widgets, made the pics as small as possible and optimised in every possible way with the help of my web support guy - nothing has fixed the problem. ( I suspect that most people still have an inferior internet connection as i live in South Africa and we cannot take internet speed for granted here yet)

I have found an option that i would like to change my albums to within the theme - the WP Gallery - which is a page feature.
But now it seems that i cannot link my homepage album links to this -as it is a page feature, and not a gallery option - which means i would have to re-design my front page entirely and have the links in the navigation bar at the top - this is not first prize :(

Please advise whether it would be possible to keep my front page as it is and have my album links take me through to my WP Gallery Page option instead of a slideshow gallery option as it is now.

Your help would be much appreciated.

    Hello there:-)

    I have deeply checked your example album http://michellewastie.com/album/lifestyle
    If I wish to see that album I have to download 29.4MB of data which is not small. All your pictures are nice quality, and they are around 500KB each(most above, one is more then 1MB).
    I have also scanned how fast does it take to download photos from you server and it wasn't impressive but maybe it is cause of distance(I'm in Europe).

    Before we go in to what you asked I would advise two things:
    1. Divide albums in smaller one with less photos, or/and try again to optimise photos. This will make whole album load faster.
    2. Fix some messed styling in album thumbs. They look really strange now. Currently you have

    #thumb-list li {
        cursor: pointer;
        float: left;
        height: 100%;
        overflow: hidden;
        padding-left: 450px; /* <- this is the problem */
        width: 150px;
    }
    I would remove padding-left: 450px; from your custom CSS and from compressed.css(it is added in both these places).

    If you still want go your way, I will prepare for you same modification as we made for Hypershot theme http://support.apollo13.eu/discussion/comment/4203#Comment_4203
    It will be almost same changes:-)

    So I am waiting for your decision.

    With regards.
  • Thank you for your reply :)

    I have had a look at the Cherrymultimedia's website -

    http://cherrymultimedia.com/genre/photography
    - this is exactly what i want -
    IT IS BEAUTIFUL :) :) :)

    i couldn't find this option within the theme which is why i have suggested the only option that i could find for all the thumbnails to be visible which was the WP gallery

    - but in an absolute ideal world what i would like is for my home page to be as the link above with my albums as thumbnail links for the different album options (portraits, fashion, etc)

    and then once you click on an album link option eg. FASHION

    for it to go through to a page with exactly the same thumbnail option showing the album as thumbnails as on the photography link for CherryMultimedia's photography page,

    and when you click on a thumbnail of choice for it to bring up a slideshow option that can be controlled

    as with the slideshow option that is available in the WP Gallery, where the pic previews in a decent size (not full screen, about half to 60%)

    And as the viewer, you can control the progress by clicking forward or backward.

    Is this possible..?

    Please advise.

    I would be eternally grateful for your help :)

    x
    :)

    Yes, this is different our theme http://themeforest.net/item/hypershot-photography-portfolio-wordpress-theme/3391790

    Yes, all this is possible with Hypershot theme, not with Spaceship. Hypershot is much more powerful theme then Spaceship. They are also quite compatible so switching from Spaceship too Hypershot shouldn't be to painful ;-)

    To be clear : Achieving such thing in Spaceship is not possible. We can only try to make thumbnails in Albums list link to posts with WP Galleries.

    With regards.

    I don't quite understand question? Are you asking me how to change theme, or you wish something else?
    :-)

    With regards.
  • Hello :)

    I have purchased and loaded the Hypershot Theme.

    It has been a super-smooth transition :) :) :)

    Thank you for your fantastic work!

    Please could you advise how you manage to get your images down to 100-150kb whilst keeping the quality - this would be a great help.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,
    Michelle

    Hello Michelle and thank you for purchase and good words :)

    There are several ways to get your photos to be as light as possible.
    The easiest way is to use one of the web applications like:
    - http://www.jpegmini.com/
    - http://media4x.com/jpeg-minimizer/

    if you are not satisfied with the results you need to use Photoshop because there you can control what the result is. Here you will find some tutorials to understand the process:
    - http://graphicdesign.about.com/od/howto/ss/save_for_web.htm
    - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/understanding-adobe-photoshop-cs6/save-for-web/
    - http://sixrevisions.com/web_design/comprehensive-guide-saving-images-for-web/

    You can send me also one of your pictures and ill try to make it as light as possible (in photoshop) and ill let you know about the results.

    I hope it helps :)

    Best regards
    Daniel

  • Quick q:

    Why is my logo pixelating?

    I have tried to load it in various resolutions and sizes - when i make it bigger it takes up more space... any idea how this can be rectified?

    Thank you :)

    Kind regards,
    Michelle

    I don't see issue. Maybe save it as PNG to not lose quality.

    With regards.
  • Thank you.

    I have 3 questions regarding the Hypershot theme:

    1. my images are showing the image name at the bottom when in album mode - how do i get rid of the image name
    2. how do i change the grey textured background to white?
    3. my brick album option sometimes shows 4 columns and sometimes 5 - and when i change the size of the bricks in pixels, it doesn't seem to respond...?

    Thank you for your help.
