How to update Fame theme when my theme is customized

I have the old version of Fame. Wordpress is not allowing me to upload new photos and says I need to update the theme. I don't want to upload this if it wipes out my current customized website. Please advise.

This message more from theme then WordPress, that informs every theme user that there is newer version.

It depends what you have customized. Most CSS modification can be moved to custom CSS field, and changes in templates to child theme, allowing you to do updates fairly safe :-)
