I am far away from such confusing(not user friendly) settings for end user like hiding main content on page load and showing background content instead. Like name tells it is background content, so it is not important :-)
Switching off effect on some pages may also be confusing, but not as much as hiding main content.

I will use the theme not only for photos.
I would like written in my last post ( http://support.apollo13.eu/discussion/363/full-screen-page-template#Item_5 ), use the theme for a timeline. Since there is no background in this case, with the glass effect is a blank page display.
Especially on mobile devices, it would be nice to have the timeline view the whole page.
