Problem attaching video links in a brick album

edited December 2012 in Hypershot Posts: 50
I am trying to create a section in my website where I collect all the video slideshows I make with my company. I want to display this in a brick album.

I do not want to use youtube or vimeo links as they always start playing the videos on the lowest possible resolution...and if the user does not know how to upgrade the resolution the... video looks bad. Instead I want to use the html embedded code that animoto.com provides for the videos I make there.

I was able to load one of my animoto slideshow videos to the album I created. But the brick is not right it overlaps transparently as a vertical over the video I loaded (see example below). How do I fix this? I've gone repeatedly back to the album page to change the settings and it does not go away. My video plays perfectly....but the transparent brick player is blank and does not take the shape of the video brick.

I am sorry but this is not true. Youtube starts playing at low, but right after detecting user internet connection speed, and browser compatibility they increase resolution 'on fly'. It is made for user sake, cause more important is to play video without stops then high details image. Vimeo have fine resolution from start, and handle things similarly.
I think you are underestimating you users and way how this players where made to make it easy for even not experienced user to use it:-)
My opinion(based on experience in this topic) is if user really is that much inexperienced he will be happy that video plays, and he will not notice a bit crappy resolution ;-)

It may be impossible to use this code in albums, but you can create new page and try to add this code there. It may not look as good as brciks album, but it will WORK :-)

Still you can try to insert this value as movie in bricks album and check will it work

Uploaded videos? I hope you just used wrong word:-)
Anyway link please, I can't find it on your server.

    With regards.

I removed everything and started fresh. See the link above to show what we now get when we embed the animoto or a YouTube. This is an album.

How do you get the show grid on the sample you have? When we try to do a full page, the video doesn't play. It just has the circle loading icon.
  • Just to follow up with some more background info on what we've tried to do:

I've tried doing a new page with either a youtube or animoto embed or straight link. That didn't work.
I've tried doing a full screen video with an album using youtube or animoto embed or straight link. That didn't work. When I do any "full screen video" the video just stays on a black screen with the loading icon spinning in the center, but it never opens or plays. It doesn't even show if it is trying to buffer on the botton play/pause bar.
I've tried to do a brick album using the code you provided above on your December 3rd response...and that did not work.

In short, for the most part the theme is not accepting links from youtube or animoto. It has only accepted one embed code...and that was the embed code from animoto. I tried the embed code from youtube an that wouldn't take

In the bricks album it does accept an embed code from animoto....that is the only thing that has slightly worked. The problem with that is that like I demonstrated with my picture attachment in my first post of this discussion thread...the thumbnail does not conform to the video it is attached to. The thumbnail is portrait shaped while the video behind it is landscape or horizontal.

Is there some kind of plugin to help ?

I go back to your Hypershot example in the live preview of themeforest and I see you have a section under "video" where you have "video grid" and "showreel". How can I set up a "video grid" like yours?

Was that a page?....or an album? Exactly what steps did you take to put that together because at this point I've made various attempts and nothing is working.

Unfortunately link you send me is preview, and I as not logged user can't see it. I will need something that I can really see :-)

Video album is normal album but you give videos as link. I hope this is obvious:-)
If you made bricks album already(I can see you did) then creating same one with videos, or adding video to photo album should be easy. If you already saw this video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=o9xdZIX3xno
then now check this screen shot(attached) and everything should be obvious(I hope)

    With regards.

  • Air, first, yes I know how to make brick albums with images/photos....I've already got 3 brick albums loaded under my "portfolio" section in my website photographs. So video does not help.

I have tried multiple combinations to load videos and the only one that comes close to working is when I embed an animoto code...not a link. But that is still not right.

I went ahead and published each attempt I made as the best thing is for you to go inside my website to see the issue.

First go to my website....this is the link that should work:
    http://gator222.hostgator.com/~virimage/

Next under "portfolio" you will see I added 4 "Video Slideshow" albums

Brick with youtube link .....does not work
Full Screen Album with youtube link....does not work
Brick with animoto link.....does not work
Brick with animoto embeded code.....kinda works but thumbnail is a problem overlapping video player

Just in case, here are the links and/or embed codes that I'm trying to load. They are all for the same single video

Youtube link: ( and here is the link to the page where you can go see that link yourself: )

    Animoto link: http://animoto.com/play/PcPb13YXL4w4q5TLQ5joYA

    Animoto embedded code:

How did you do the "show grid" in your Hypershot example? Was that just a page instead of an album?

I don't if you read my answer, and saw screen shot, cause you ask same questions again :-)
    Lets break it:
    1. I know you created brick albums, just wanted to tell that making video(or mixed) album is the same.
    2. Our 'video grid' is brick album with video linked instead of images.
    3. How to do it - look at screen shot in previous post.
4 Your youtube link might be the problem. Try using this one: http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mcm6BsRyYIE
(but remove space after http://. I added it so forum would not convert my link to video;-) )

Don't worry, we will sort it out together :-)
I will try to extend documentation for adding album.

    With regards.
  • Air, I got the videos to load. Thanks
What was the difference? Not the screen shot in your previous post(2 posts ago) on how to add links to an album. I knew how to do that already.

The link youtube was providing was the issue. It didn't want to work with your theme because their link doesn't provide the"watch?v=" portion in the link
The watch?v= portion of the link is what made the difference.

While I know you kinda mention in passing in your documentation or instructions manual " For youtube best to use links as : "

It could be clarified a bit more.

Also from looking at the video tutorial on how to set up these albums it's made to look like all you need to do is copy and paste the youtube link into your album and everything will always connect perfectly. But that "watch?v=" really makes a huge difference. I just think it would be beneficial for future purchasers of hypershot if that were detailed more in your instructions or on your video tutorial.

In your "Image sizes video support and others" section of your documentations/instructions manual under "Video/Audio support" I think you should add something like this:

"Please note that the link youtube provides for a video may require "watch?v=" after the /com for it to connect properly to the albums inside the hypershot theme."

    Or something like that.

I just think it would make things easier for others. Just a suggestion.

Thanks again for your support :-)
  • Sorry, forgot to add the space inside the Eminem youtube link so the video itself wouldn't attach to the comment....should have been For youtube best to use links as : http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=JByDbPn6A1o

Thanks for your suggestions. To be honest when, we wrote this part of documentation(few themes ago) it was main way of attaching youtube video. Most links I saw was
    http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mcm6BsRyYIE
    not http://youtu.be/Mcm6BsRyYIE.
I think I should extend detection of Youtube in theme and extend documentation just how you advice.

    Thanks!

Since Hypershot 1.1 we also accept links like http://youtu.be/Mcm6BsRyYIE
