Site Very Slow - Caching For Theme Elements Inoperable

edited September 2015 in Blame Posts: 5
Folks hi,

It has come to my attention that our site is slow and using GTMetrix.com yields a "C" score.

The top 2 recommendations are: "Defer parsing of JavaScript" and "Leverage browser caching".

Under more details for these two items, the files listed are theme and plugin related: with "wp-content" and "wp-includes" in the path name:
e.g.
http://www.xxxxx/wp-content/plugins/revslider/rs-plugin/js/jquery.themepunch.tools.min.js?rev=4.6.92 (88.4KiB)
http://www.xxxxx/wp-content/themes/blame/js/jackbox/js/jackbox-packed.min.js?ver=1.4.5 (45.3KiB)
And
Under "Leverage browser caching": "the following cacheable resources have a short freshness lifetime. Specify an expiration at least one week in the future for the following resources:
http://www.xxxxx/wp-content/themes/blame/css/font-awesome.min.css?ver=4.3.0

I installed the caching plugin: WP Super Cache
Configured as shown here: http://www.wpexplorer.com/wordpress-caching-wp-super-cache/
Additional configured the WP Super Cache 'Content' tab to removed “wp-” in the “Additional Setting” so that these would also cache.

However reviewing the 'Content' cached via "List All Cached Files" on the 'Content' tab indicated no theme or plugin related files.

Is there some conflict with the theme caching or similar?

Thanks
Jane

    Hello:-)

I believe you wrote this post in same order as you were working on it.

I see you have message about jacbox lightbox.
Jackobx lightbox is very bloated if you ask me, but it looks good. If you wish more "compressable" lightbox then in advanced theme options you can change lightbox http://apollo13.eu/docs/blame/#!/advanced_menu

About caching mechanics of WP Super Cache I think it needs time, and page visits to work as it should. Also you should ask in their forum for more info.

As for general page speed, I would focus more on server then on caching plugins. Yes, they can give you page boost and it is only noticeable in really slow site configurations. Too much plugins, or single WMPL plugin might also slow down your page.
Speed of page loading on Wordpress is huge topic and can be take on from many angels.

    With kind regards.
  • Dear Air,

I don't know anything about Jackbox lighting or what you mean by that.
Thanks for confirming about too many plugins , etc
I will try the WP Super Cache help/forum.
    Thanks
    Jane

p.s. I am not a man. The copy on this page http://support.apollo13.eu/discussion/12/before-you-ask-read-this-#Item_1 posting should be changed (Man)

    :-)
In this form "good man" doesn't mean "male", but human in general. Good citizen I could say.

Than don't worry about it ;-)

As I said page speed optimization is though topic. Biggest improvements, and also highest price is to switch to some real WP hosting like WP engine or kinsta, or others. But it all depends what someone wants from ones site:-)

    With kind regards.
  • Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

N.B. In this context man = man is a very old fashioned person (approx. early 18th century or earlier). And word choice undoubtably by a wæpenmann.

I don't fully understand what you wrote here, however I have explained my intentions above. Still, I can edit this small headline for your pleasure:)

    With kind regards.
